Yesterday I took a guest lecture at the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology for the students taking a course in Brand Management. I presented my thoughts on building brands in a digitized world and challenges for marketers. Loved the energy of students who were very direct in their questions and challenges. I did a similar presentation at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in March and had a totally different set of questions. May be because most of the students were from mainland China and were focused on how they can make a difference in China.
I personally feel that the Universities are still lagging behind in embracing digital and unable to impart knowledge in this area that can be applied once the students step out in the real world. These gaps could be filled with bringing in industry practitioners to teach alongside their internal professors. It will ensure academic discipline as well as practical application.
