Typhoon Higos is headed towards Hong Kong. This is probably the 5th or 6th Typhoon of the season. Hong Kong Observatory usually issues Signal 8 when the Typhoon is in the destructive range of Hong Kong. Most of us – who get the benefit of staying under a protected roof look at Signal 8 as a holiday opportunity. We actually sometimes make references like – “I wish the Typhoon lands in Hong Kong on Monday” – at times I’m guilty of it.
But today it struck me that there must several thousand people staying in villages (New Territories as well as in Southern China) whose lives would turn upside down because of the destruction that a typhoon brings. It made me sad and I have decided never to wish for a Typhoon Signal 8 to come. And when it comes wish for the well being of those who are not as fortunate as I’m. I do hope that Typhoon Higos weakens & the damage is minimal.
